Breast augmentation is one of the widely performed cosmetic procedures that is popular especially with women. Women may like to undergo the procedure for several reasons that may vary from small breasts to drooping breasts. All these reasons may be a result of age, gravity and pregnant. The FDA recommends women to wait until the breasts have completely developed. This may be in late teens or early 20s. The procedure employs use of implants that may require a woman to be at least 18 if she opts for saline and at least 22 if she opts for silicone. The type of implant to be used should be left to the surgeon to decide on.
Both the implants used in breast augmentation Los Angeles differ in the filling liquid they use. Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water (saline), while silicone implants are filled with silicone (plastic gel). However, silicone implants may be preferred for the more realistic look and feel that they achieve. Breast augmentation may require incisions to be made so as to insert the implants. The incisions are usually made under breasts, under arms, or around nipples. This depends on the type of implant, the woman’s body type and other factors. Often, the surgeon would make incision and try to hide the scars thus formed.
A breast augmentation may take approximately 1-2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia so that the patient doesn’t feel anything. The breast implant Los Angeles is placed either above or below the chest muscle and the incisions are sutured. Breast augmentation can be done as an outpatient procedure, or in a hospital where the patient stays overnight. The surgery may cost anywhere from $5000 – $10000. The patient would further like to ask about the cost of surgery, total price including fees for anesthesia, hospital stay, medication, the implants themselves, etc. Further surgeries may be performed in case of complications, shifting or implant ruptures.
Breast augmentation involves X-rays to supplement regular mammograms. This may increase the cost further. The FDA recommends that women with silicone implants receive an MRI every 2 years after surgery to check for ruptures at an average cost of $2000. Cosmetic surgeries may not be covered by insurance companies if done for cosmetic enhancement. However, breast implants after mastectomy for breast cancer patients may be covered by the insurers. Some doctors may assist in financing patients who are not able to pay for the procedure.
